Faculty and administrators are invited to the “Reacting to the Past” Workshop Series hosted by Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilant, MI) on October 22-23. This will feature a mini-version of "The Trial of Galileo: Aristotelianism, the 'New Cosmology,' and the Catholic Church, 1616-33." The central texts include Aristotle's ON THE HEAVENS, Galileo's STARRY MESSENGER and DIALOGUE ON THE TWO CHIEF WORLD SYSTEMS as well as publications of the Council of Trent and other works. Registration ($200) includes most meals as well as advance copies of the major texts. "Reacting to the Past" won the Theodore Hesburgh Award (sponsored by TIAA-CREF) as the nation's outstanding pedagogical innovation in higher education in 2004. Faculty have free access to all "Reacting" materials.
