Ohio Goes to War: The Sectional Crisis and the Fight for Freedom

Call for papers: Celebrating the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War era in the Greater Ohio Valley, this conference solicits single paper and panel proposals dealing broadly with issues relating to the Civil War and Ohio. Papers and panels emphasizing social, cultural, military, and political examinations of the age of sectionalism are particularly welcome as are those dealing with such issues as Ohio’s abolition movement, the Underground Railroad, the Secession Crisis, military mobilization, and the home front. The conference is jointly sponsored by Kent State University Press and the history departments at the University of Akron, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University. Proposals should include a short one-page CV for each participant and an abstract of no more than 250 words for each paper. Panel proposals should also include a 100 word overview of the panel’s relationship to the conference theme. Participants may submit their papers for possible publication by Kent State University Press, which publishes the journal Civil War History, and the book series, "Civil War in the North."
