The Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies (MARAAS) invites you to please join us for our annual conference, “Sustainable Asia: Challenges and Opportunities,” on October 22-23 in State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to presentations centered on the conference theme, various off-theme topics will be of interest to scholars from a wide variety of disciplines. The keynote address will be given by K. Shivi Sivaramakrishnan, President of the Association for Asian Studies and Professor of Anthropology, Forestry & Environmental Studies, and International & Area Studies at Yale University. The conference will open with a “Teaching Asia Workshop” and will include 38 scholarly panels with presenters from around the world. Other highlights include a book exhibit, a Japanese woodblocks print exhibition, and a Japanese shakuhachi flute concert by Michael Gould and Chieko and Kodi Iwazaki. Conference registration fees are $50 for MARAAS members and $60 for non-members.
