We are organizing either one or two panels for the Southwestern Historical Association meeting, March 16-19, 2011, in Las Vegas, NV. The focus for the panels is the reaction of local elites (or nobles or aristocrats) to changes in political situations, especially those experiencing changes as a result of the imposition or demise of central authority. We are particularly interested in cross-regional, cross-temporal comparisons among papers within the panels and would like to solicit papers especially on U.S., European, and African topics, although papers in any field will be considered. Please send paper abstract (300 word max.) along with a short, 1-page C.V. and a/v equipment needs to bbenton@ucla.edu by October 8th, 2010.
