Call for Papers HIb Revista de Historia Iberoamericana
Dossier: “Disasters and History in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula”
HIb Revista de Historia Iberoamericana invites to submit articles for a special issue about “Disasters and History in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula,” that will be published in June 2011. The intention is to promote the discussion about the environmental, social, cultural, political and economic impact that different types of events, labeled as “disastrous,” have had in different Latin American and Iberian societies in the short or the long term. This involves possibilities of reflection about the connection of different societies with the environment, the social relations in context of crisis, fear, memory, identity or political and economic changes associated with disasters. We will consider proposals that deal with catastrophes, fires and epidemics as well as the effects of floods, droughts, earthquakes, and storms, among others. We will give priority to articles that provide a methodological and conceptual contribution to analyze disasters from a historical perspective in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
As guest editor for this special issue we have invited professor Charles F. Walker, director of the UC Davis Hemispheric Institute on the Americas (HIA) and author of Shaky Colonialism. The 1746 Earthquake-Tsunami in Lima, Peru, and its Long Aftermath (Duke, 2008), cfwalker@ucdavis.edu
The deadline to submit articles is Friday January 7th, 2011. We accept articles written in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The articles should be submitted by e-mail to pbernedo@universia.net or fpurcell@hib.universia.net. For instructions and details about how to submit your article visit http://revistahistoria.universia.net.
