All places have a HISTORY... Sextant.org is a wiki-based website that lets
you learn about, or tell others about, the history of any location on earth.
Take a look and SHARE, LEARN, and EXPLORE! Learn about ANYWHERE More than
just an historical encyclopedia, Sextant.org is a geographically organized
catalogue of historical locations, telling the whole story of each Point Of
Interest (POI).
Interactive maps can also show you a specific location, as well as other
historical Points Of Interest anywhere around the world. You can use the
maps to link directly to the entry about a location. Be an historical
archeologist and peel back the layers of the past. Go on an historical tour.
Learn about the history of what is there now and what was there years,
decades, and centuries before. Write the story of ANYWHERE!
Sextant.org's easy-to-use software allows you to make a wiki-page about the
history of a specific geographic location in minutes. You can embed links,
add photographs, and use other multimedia to tell the story of your POI
however you want. All of the locations entered into Sextant.org are included
on the site's interactive maps. This lets you see the history of a location,
as well as how that location is geographically related to, or situated
amongst, other historical Points of Interest in the same area, or throughout
the world.
Education: Use Sextant.org to research and publish student research
projects. Produce a history report about an historical Point Of Interest and
share your work with the world.
Tourism: Sextant.org can show you the interesting historical Points of
Interest in the places you visit. It also lets you add your own experiences
to the existing descriptions. Plan your explorations by using the "Points in
a Square" function to find all of the POI in a particular geographic area.
Museums and Institutions: You can Share the history of your events and
exhibitions by showing where they took place, and contextualize them by
explaining how and why they happened.
