Gender, Identity and Asian Popular Culture
Call for Papers
We invite papers that explore various perspectives on the ways in which women and issues related to them are represented in Asian popular culture and media.
This book invites submissions from a variety of perspectives, disciplines and fields, including theoretical works, literary and cultural studies, the arts, and popular culture. Suggested topics may include but not be limited to the following regarding Gender, Identity and Asian Popular Culture:
• Engagement with popular culture
• Identity construction
• Media discourses and identities
• Critiques of popular culture
• Feminism in daily life
• Gendered roles
• Male/Female Identities and representation
The focus of studies should be on Asian Popular songs, films, chick lit, Reality shows, popular fiction, and other forms of poular culture and media. The book will be published by a Malaysian publisher and will be uploaded for online use on the website of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, National University of Malaysia (UKM).
Perspective contributors are invited to submit proposals for articles in the form of a 200-300 word abstract or a short version of the paper by Oct 20, 2010. Authors will be notified regarding acceptance of abstracts by Oct 25, 2010. Authors of accepted abstracts will be expected to submit articles by of Dec 25, 2010. Abstracts submitted should be titled and accompanied with the following on a separate page: the full name of the author, university affiliation, title of the abstract, mailing address and telephone number.
