Papers are welcomed (no more than 250 words) which explore the new subjectivities made possible or explored in the Victorian era, including, but not limited to:
* disjunctions between Victorian bodies and the identities adopted by or forced on them
* movement across cultures and races
* class mobility
* changes in and challenges to gender roles and expectations
* sexual practices and identities
* post-Darwinian conceptions of the human
* changing conceptions of aesthetics
* new identities offered by changing technologies
* new forms of representation, such as photography
* emigration/immigration
* neo-Victorian rememberings
* ‘going native'
* performing identities
* the impact of landscapes and climates
* interaction with animals
* theoretical models that throw new light on Victorians.
