2011 Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association

Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, TX
The 2011 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas at the Marriott Rivercenter. Affiliated with the National Popular and American Culture Associations founded by Ray B. Browne, this conference has grown over the past 33 years to include a wide range of offerings bringing participants together from across the nation and internationally. Proposals are now being accepted for the Africana Studies Area. Listed below are some suggestions for possible presentations, but topics not included here are also welcome.
•The Obama era and the idea of a “post-racial” society
•The relationship of Black Power to the Black Studies Movement
•The evolution and globalization of Hip-Hop culture
•Black oral traditions and expressive culture
•History of the relationship between U.S. governmental healthcare and African Americans
•Bi-racial and multiracial identity in the United States
•The evolution of black comedy
•The role of black radio and journalism in contemporary black culture
•Black Independent Films and Filmmakers
•The role of extended families in Black culture
•African American gangsters in film
•The iconization of Michael Jackson
•Black contribution to westward development in the United States
If you are interested in creating your own panel, I would be glad to assist you in doing so. Inquiries regarding this area and/or abstracts of 250 words may be sent to Dr. Raymond A. Hall at hallray@cwu.edu by December 15, 2010. Please include your contact information with each submission. Please feel free to forward this CFP to any and all colleagues you think might be interested in submitting.
