Bicentennial of Tecumseh-Harrison Meetings to be Commemorated in Vincennes Aug. 21, 2010

Grouseland, the territorial mansion of Wm. H. Harrison, 9th President, in Vincennes, IN, will commemorate the 200th Anniv. of the meetings between Harrison and Shawnee leader, Tecumseh, on Sat. Aug. 21, 2010, at 3 W. Scott St. Vincennes, IN. 1:00 PM Dedication Ceremony includes procession and reenactment of events by militia and Native American reenactors. Native American dignitaries will recite excerpts from Tecumseh's famous speeches and dedicate the new park area at Grouseland. 7:00-10:00 PM, 1810 Camp Fire, "Council at the Grove," will feature storytellers and an encampment of reenactors providing period demonstrations.
Events throughout the day include tours of Grouseland Mansion (by candlelight from 7:00- 10:00), period demonstrations, and food and beverage booths. Events are free and open to the public. Mansion tours given at regular admission rates. Events are co-hosted by Vincennes State Historic Sites and Vincennes University and among the featured events of the Vincennes War of 1812 Bicentennial commemoration.
