From November 8 to 9, 2010, the first ever Mindanao Conference on Issues in Development will take place at the Brokenshire Convention Center, Madapo Hills, Davao City, Philippines. This conference is jointly organized by the UP Mindanao-CHED Zonal Research Center XI and the Davao Colleges and Universities Network, in cooperation with other higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region.
The conference is a venue to discuss key themes that impact development, such as, but not limited to, the plight of the indigenous peoples (IPs), peace and conflict resolution, energy and power, poverty, health, gender, the state of education, biodiversity and the environment, mining and other industries, agriculture and fisheries, business, technology, and governance policies.
Aside from providing a venue to disseminate research and discuss current development issues, the conference also aims to determine a common and emerging research agenda for Mindanao, to identify gaps on studies in development, to find new paradigms in confronting old problems, and to foster and enhance networking and collaboration of various stakeholders.
