on English and Language Arts Pedagogy
in Secondary and Postsecondary Institutions
October 27-29, 2010

|
The Department of English and Foreign Languages at Claflin University cordially invites you and your faculty to attend our ninth annual English and Language Arts Pedagogy Conference to be held on October 27, 28, and 29, 2010. This year’s theme is “Locating Voices: Community and Literacy”. This year’s keynote speaker and workshop leader is Dr. Keith Gilyard, Distinguished Professor of English, Penn State University. The registration fee is $50.
This conference continues a series of annual conferences whose mission is to provide a discussion format for educators all over the southeastern region. Given the pivotal role that reading and writing play in the secondary and postsecondary curriculum, and the problems that students and faculty face in their endeavors to learn and to teach Language Arts effectively, Claflin University continues to support the conference. The conference aims at providing faculty, administrators, publishers, writers, graduate students, and pre-service teachers with opportunities to share ideas and strategies as well as vent their problems and frustrations with regard to finding solutions that work.
Another purpose of the conference is to encourage collaborative interdisciplinary projects among educators. Such joint ventures are expected to result in the development of strategies, plans, and solutions to improve both school-based and region-based instruction in reading and writing across the curriculum. It is our hope that your institution will be adequately represented at this conference.
