The Forty Years’ Crisis: Refugees in Europe, 1919-59
Birkbeck College, University of London
14-16 September 2010
This conference will take stock of the ‘short’ twentieth century of European refugees and refugee policy within its global as well as it European context. It will draw together and re-assess the by now substantial amount of research on refugee crises and responses, with particular reference to international analyses and initiatives, such as those of the United Nations, its precursor organisations and other international bodies.
Keynote lectures will be given by Professor Michael Marrus (Toronto) and Dr Zara Steiner (Murray-Edwards College, Cambridge).
Participation is free and open to all, but registration is essential. For registration details and the full programme, see
