The 2010 Mid-Atlantic World History Association Program Committee invites proposals for full panels, single papers, and roundtables on topics related to the scholarly and/or pedagogical aspects of this year¡¦s conference theme, ¡§Race and Identity in World History¡¨ and the general theme of World History. We welcome submissions on any subject, period or area from independent scholars as well as teachers/scholars from universities, colleges, secondary schools, publishers and other related institutions.
MAWHA is thrilled to announce that this year¡¦s conference will be held in conjunction with Monmouth University's Biannual Interdisciplinary Conference on Race Thursday, November 11 ¡V Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
In addition to other topics not related to the theme, possible topics could include, but are not limited to, the following:
„X How has Identity been shaped by Race and vice versa
„X How has Race been shaped by the events of World History
„X How do Race and Identity shape Popular Culture (and vice versa)
„X Urban space and racial / ethnic space
„X Education and Race policy
„X Eugenics and Race
„X Teaching About Race: Techniques for Exploring Race in the Classroom
Submission Guidelines:
Each paper, panel, or roundtable proposal must include a title and a brief (300 words or less) description of the topic. Sessions are ninety (90) minutes long. Ideally, panels will consist of three presenters, who will be allotted no more than 20 minutes each, leaving time for questions. Panels will have maximum of four presenters, roundtables may have five panelists, but each will be limited to a 10-minute initial statement.
