2010 marks the 400th anniversary fo the official Plantation of Ulster, a seminal event in Irish History.
A series of conferences organised by the international research network of the Institute of Ulster Scots Studies at the University of Ulster have been held since 2006 marking the 1606 Hamilton-Montgomery Plantation (2006), an unofficail Scottish Plantation; the 1607 Flight of the Earls (2007) and the Plantation itself with three conferences in 2009 on the theme of 'The Plantation of Ulster: A laboratory for empire'.
The University of Strathclyde is the Scottish partner in this international research network and this conference marks the Scottish contribution to examination of the Plantation and it's impact.
