Christianity in Contemporary China: Socio-cultural Perspectives
7th and 8th January, 2011
We invite proposals on topics including, but not limited to, the following:
1) evolving religious spaces in rural and urban areas
2) Christianity and civil society
3) Christianity and contemporary Chinese popular culture (literature, films, etc)
4) Interactions between Christianity and other religions in China
5) Christianity, globalization and transnational relations
Given the increasing transnational flows of capital, ideas and personnel in and out
of China these days, findings from the conference will shed important light on the
shifting contours of China's civil society as religion becomes an important element
in its society and culture.
We intend to publish select papers, after peer-review and revision, as an edited
volume with a major academic publisher.
Subsidies for travel and accommodation:
Airfare for all overseas paper presenters will be subsidised up to a maximum of
S$1800 (approx. US$1300) for economy-class travel.
Accommodation for all overseas presenters will be provided from 6 to 8 Jan 2011 (3
nights).
Submission details:
Paper proposals should include a title, an abstract (300 words max.) and a short
bio-note (200 words). Please submit all proposals to Dr. Francis Lim
(fkglim@ntu.edu.sg) by 30 July 2010.
Successful applicants will be notified by 10 August 2010 and will be required to
send in a completed paper (5,000-6,000 words) by 3 December 2010.
