This roundtable will explore the genre of historical fiction. Topics include: reception; historical context; historiographic and literary theory; fact and fiction; reappraisal of those who have not received their critical due; “serious” and “popular” historical fiction; recent subgenres within historical fiction, etc. What is the essence of historical fiction?
