Nora Volkow presents 10th Annual Sackler Lecture
|
|
Nora Volkow, M.D. (IOM), Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse will present the 10th Annual Sackler Lecture entitled “Addiction: Conflict Between Brain Circuits” on Friday, June 11, 6:00 p.m. at the AAAS Auditorium in Washington, D.C.. Dr. Volkow’s imaging studies have clarified the mechanisms of drug addiction and demonstrated that it is a disease of the human brain. Her work has led to the public’s view of drug addiction changing from that of a moral violation or flaw of character to an understanding that changes to brain structure can make it difficult for addicts to give up their addictions. The lecture is free and open to the public and is offered in conjunction with the National Academy of Sciences’ Sackler Colloquium Quantification of Behavior. A reception precedes the lecture at 5:00 p.m., 1200 New York Ave NW (entrance corner of 12th and H St) RSVP at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=qMGq7AmIyktQWS3gFcFes6HDZ6PP4xLanDrIOwt97pw%3d& More information http://www.nasonline.org/Sackler_Quantification_of_Behavior
