Immigration to Italy in the last decades has brought with it both demographic and cultural change. Immigrant communities are reshaping the social landscape of the peninsula and introducing new traditions that challenge the notion of a homogeneous Italian culture. This session aims to look at the growing Muslim community in particular, and the ways in which literature, film, theater and media perceive Islam and the Islamic world in Italy. Please send 250 word abstracts and short bios to Johanna Rossi Wagner at jrwagner@rutgers.edu.
