In light of the twenty-eight years which have passed since the publication of Heidi Hartman’s article, “The Unhappy Marriage of Marxism and Feminism:Towards a More Progressive Union,” it is interesting to examine how work performed by men and women is depicted in French-Canadian literature. How has the women’s movement changed the work force in the last thirty years? What impact has NAFTA and globalization made on the workforce for both sexes? What role has economic security and insecurity played in these narratives? In what ways have war and employment been expressed in French-Canadian literature? This panel invites papers on any aspect of gender and work in 20th and 21st century French-Canadian literature, especially as it relates to family, migration, place, race, ethnicity, and globalization.
Please send an abstract of 150-200 words and a brief biography to Edith B. Vandervoort, dobyabear@earthlink.net by September 30, 2010. Papers may be presented in French or English.
