Working Title: Render unto God:
Christianity and Capitalism in Trouble
A few more authors are needed for a collection of essays by Christian scholars (confessional Protestants, Catholics, and evangelicals) who identify themselves as conservatives but have become increasingly critical of conservative economic policy, questioning the seemingly natural connection between Christianity and capitalism. In America’s current economic climate, Christians have an opportunity to critique capitalism and explore creative avenues outside fiscal libertarianism without compromising traditional faith. The intent is not to write yet another manual for revolution, but to offer hard criticism of the Christian community’s ostensibly blind-faith in a free market. This volume is for those who want to preserve a theologically and ecclesiastically robust Christianity while offering strong criticisms of capitalism in its various forms.
Authors willing to offer solutions to the current economic crisis from a distinctively Christian perspective are desired. Essays should appeal to a broad evangelical audience.
The editor desires more contributions in the following areas: the intellectual origins of capitalism, capitalism and war, capitalism and globalization, capitalism and theology, and, especially, capitalism and the environment.
Potential authors may also write on the following topics:
Christianity and Revolution
Free Markets and Christian Pedagogy
Evangelicalism and the Market Revolution
Status Anxiety/Class Anxiety and Christian Identity
