What is the “something else” beside logic that detective fiction and the hard-boiled genre explore? How does it appear in investigative work that plays with narration to exceed representational formulation? This panel will follow surplus presentations in detection, including polyphonic, psychological, cyber, or hybrid works that push the genre to a figurative edge. Papers on contemporary crossbred forms— such as Steig Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy— or more classical but still experimental detection— such as Gertrude Stein’s Blood on the Dining Room Floor— are particularly welcome. The call also seeks studies of psychoanalytic jouissance in detection, including psychotic or unstable perspectives that still elude the case, i.e. Lisbeth Salander or Lizzie Borden. Finally the panel will also discuss anti- formations in detective analysis. All proposals on this or related topics are welcome.
