Abstract submissions invited for a Renaissance Society of America 2011 conference panel, "Work in Early Modern Europe: A Concept in Transition." The conference will take place in Montreal, Canada, 24-26 March, 2011. The panel will be sponsored by the Rutgers University Medieval-Renaissance Colloquium and will address the ways in which “work” can be considered a concept in transition in the early modern period.
Topic areas may include (but need not be restricted to): concepts and representations of work in light of the emergence of capitalism, Protestantism, changes in the understanding of time and of property rights/relations, poverty and the vagrancy problem, gender-related issues, early modern visions of the work/leisure divide, etc.

Presenters must be members of the Renaissance Society of America at the time of the conference.
