This international Ramayana conference will examine the retelling and manifestation of the epic in diverse ancient and modern textual traditions, visual and performing arts as well as popular cultures of Asia. The conference also features a section on Ramayana in performance theatre such as the Chinese opera and Ramayana in modern Indonesian dance.
This two-day conference features eminent scholars and performers, including Robert Goldman from University of California Berkeley, USA as the keynote speaker. Other speakers include: Vidyut Aklujkar from Canada; Mandakranta Bose from University of British Columbia in Canada; John and Mary Brockington from University of Edinburgh and Institute of Sanskrit Studies in UK; Chua Soo Pong from the Chinese Opera Institute in Singapore; Marshall Clark from Deakin University in Melbourne in Australia; Sandria Freitag from North Carolina State University in USA; Sally Sutherland Goldman from University of California Berkeley in USA; Mary Heston from College of Charleston in USA; Gauri Krishnan from the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore; Sardono Kusumo from Sardono Dance Theatre in Indonesia; Rachel Loizeau from France; Ratan Parimoo from the Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum in India; Siri Ramaswami from Singapore; Paula Richman from Oberlin College in USA; Vittorio Roveda from Thailand; and Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof from International Islamic University in Malaysia.
