Salem Press is pleased to announce another new multivolume set in its Great Lives from History series. This new set is on Latinos and Hispanic Americans. Great Lives from History: Latinos will cover more than 500 figures from the full sweep of American history, with particular emphasis on contemporary figures. Essays will be assigned at 1,000 and 1,500 words. Their format and general approach will be similar to those of Salem's other recent Great Lives sets on African Americans and Jewish Americans (for which assignments are also still available). Essays of 1,500 words will include sidebars on special aspects of their figures' lives. ALL essays must contain annotated "Further Reading" sections with bibliographical citations that are included within the word counts. Sidebars in the 1,500-word assignments are also included within the word counts. The manuscript deadline is Friday, July 16, 2010.
Articles are contracted as "work made for hire." Payments are based on word lengths: $50 for 1,000-word assignments and $75 for 1,500 words. Each essay that you write will carry your name in a byline at the end of the text. All contributors will also be listed at the beginning of volume 1, along with their academic or business affiliations.
If you would like to see the full, official solicitation please e-mail Mark Rehn ( mrehn@salempress.com ) with your name and e-mail address and it will be forwarded to you. Should you be interested in participating, please follow the instructions in the solicitation, adhering to the response deadline of May 21 and including a copy of your CV for all first-time potential contributors.
We look forward to hearing from you.
