Seeking Co-Panelist and Chair for LGBT History Program at the 2011 American Historical Association meeting in Boston
Tentative Panel Title: Fantasies of Desire: Consumption, Production, and the Politics of Performance
This panel seeks to expand on themes of desire, consumption,
production and performance in lgbt media history by speaking to both the circulation and construction of desire and the increasing marketization of politics in America. The first paper will examine the construction of racial desire in late homophile pornography, while the second will focus on the Erickson Educational Foundation?s use of mainstream North American media to construct transsexuals as a normative middle-class fantasy of individual fulfillment during the 1960s and 70s. The third panelist could come from a number of different sub-fields or areas of interest, and we are open to modifying the panel according to the interests of potential chairs and co-panelists.
If you are available and feel that your interests and work have a connection to our ideas, we hope to hear from you. Unfortunately, the panel proposal must be submitted by May 15th, so we are working quickly. Please submit your ideas or queries to Nick Matte: nicholas.matte@utoronto.ca
