A conference to mark the 350th anniversary of the Restoration of Charles II. The focus will be on Charles II himself and on his court, its ceremonies and its artistic patronage. The speakers will be: Ronald Hutton on ‘Charles II in the Twenty-First Century’; Diana Dethloff on ‘Peter Lely and the Royal Image’; Karen Hearn on ‘John Michael Wright (1617-1694), "Picture Drawer in Ord[inary]"’; Robert Bucholz on ‘Restoration Courtiership: The Evidence of Three Diaries (Pepys, Evelyn and Reresby)’; Stephen Brogan on ‘Medicine, Politics and Sin: The Rationale for the Royal Touch During the Stuart Restoration, 1660-85’; and Helen Jacobsen on ‘Bringing it Home: English Diplomats as Cultural Intermediaries, 1660-85’. Held at the Royal Hospital, Greenwich. The day will include a special tour of those parts of the Greenwich site associated with Charles II.
