The Graduate Association for African-American History (GAAAH) at The University of Memphis invites graduate students at all levels to submit proposals for its 12th Annual Graduate History Conference in African American History, to be held November 10-12, 2010, in Memphis, Tennessee. We welcome the submission of individual papers, complete sessions, workshops, and roundtables on all topics relating to the scholarship and teaching of the history of African Americans and blacks throughout the Diaspora. We hope to elicit the participation of graduate students who represent a broad range of disciplinary and methodological approaches.
This year’s conference will include a keynote address by Dr. Leon Litwack of the University of California-Berkeley.
Individual paper proposals should include a 300-word abstract; author contact information, including a paper title; postal address and e-mail address; and 1-3 page curriculum vitae. The organizers of complete sessions should send, in a single submission, abstracts and cvs for each of the paper presenters; cvs for the session chair and commentator; and a 200-word description of the session. All submissions should include contact information for all participants. Please list audio-visual requirements, if any.
The submission deadline for proposals is August 15, 2010. All submitted papers will be considered for the “Memphis State Eight Best Paper Prize” which is voted on by University of Memphis professors and awarded to the conference’s best paper. The prize includes a monetary award. Second and third place papers will also be recognized. Participants will be notified of acceptance by September 1, 2010 and completed 10-12 page papers must be received no later than October 15, 2010 to secure program placement. Students are required to submit one copy of their proposal and 10-12 page paper via email in addition to sending hard copies in the mail.
