In the year 711 Tariq ibn Ziyad crossed the Straits of Gibraltar and put into motion the fusion between two distinct worlds. We would like to use the 1300th anniversary to reflect on the legacies and ramifications of that historical event.
Topics include Middle Eastern and Western connections including comparative literatures from the Arab-European worlds; film studies and the arts; religion, culture and history; language and linguistics; coexistence; politics; pedagogy; media communications and government relations; and Islamic-Christian amity, to name a few.
All abstracts should include author's name, affiliation, address, telephone, fax number, and email address. Please write "Abstract" in the subject line.
The conference will be held March 23-25, 2011 in Lexington, VA.
