A prime purpose of the conference series is to expand the academic literature analysing the military and political
dimensions of Gulf security, particularly the role of the global powers. The geostrategic and political factors
that define the region, from the physical approaches to the Gulf, to the Gulf States themselves, will be assessed.
Individual sessions will examine the unique and shared challenges facing specific states. This will be followed by
wider thematic sessions including energy, economic and military security and finally the role of external powers
in the Gulf region.
