TextbookCheck.com seeks to provide balance to the overwhelmingly left-leaning voices teaching U.S. history in our schools and universities. The project focuses on specific high school history textbooks and asks professors to go over a small section or two, page by page, and write short responses. Information in the textbook that is in error, questionable, under debate but presented as fact, skewed, or otherwise inaccurate (or even omitted) will be responded to--then added to TextbookCheck's database. Students, teachers, and parents can use TextbookCheck as a commentary during the course of the school year.
It is hoped that the project, besides providing some much-needed balance when it comes to the teaching of history, will help students understand better the complexities of the field and, more importantly, how to use history to better understand and act in the present.
