We are pleased to announce the upcoming conference, "Laughing at Art: The Study of Humour in the Visual Arts," to take place in the Old Library at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, on 29-30 April 2010. A full program and registration information can be found on the web at:
http://www.hoart.cam.ac.uk/HistoryOfArt/NewsItem.aspx?p=24&ix=192&pid=1413&prcid=4&ppid=1413
The conference will feature two keynote addresses: one by Robin Simon, editor of The British Art Journal and author of Hogarth, France & British Art, and a second by illustrator Quentin Blake on his approach to humour and how it informs his work, in particular his recent sequences of pictures for hospitals. Additionally, Dean Mobbs, a post-doctoral fellow in Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, will present an introductory lecture on how the mind processes humour and laughter.
Please register early. Registration will close on 18 April, or as soon as all seats are filled.
