The 57th Annual Conference and the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies (SECOLAS) will take
place in Mexico City from April 7-10, 2010. SECOLAS and Instituto de
Investigaciones Dr. José María Luis Mora, a leading research center on history and social sciences in Mexico, are the organizers of the
Conference. The Conference venue will be the Plaza see of Instituto
Mora in Mixcoac.
SECOLAS is a non-political and non-profit association of individuals
interested in Latin America. Its objectives are the promotion of
interest in Latin America, scholarly research pertaining to Latin
America in all fields, and the increase of friendly contacts among the peoples of the Americas.
SECOLAS holds one annual meeting each spring, at which scholarly
papers and other activities are presented, as well as the business
meeting of members. The 57th Annual Conference explores the theme
“Memory and Revolution”. The Meeting will be the ideal academic forum to debate on-going research on Latin America.
As of now the Conference has 140 participants, coming from the United States and several Latin American countries. The Conference is a collective effort that will definitely shape the future research agenda on the region.
The famous Mexican historian, researcher and journalist Lorenzo Meyer, professor at El Colegio de México, will deliver the keynote speak of the Conference.
