“SUNBELT PRISONS: NEW HISTORIES OF INMATES AND INCARCERATION": Co-editors: Robert Chase & Norwood Andrews (chasehistory@yahoo.com and nandrews@smu.edu). Co-sponsors: The William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies at Southern Methodist University & The Center for the American West at the University of Colorado. We solicit proposals from scholars of any rank–from graduate students to full professors–for scholarly papers dealing with political, social, and cultural histories of imprisonment, penal institutions, immigration detention, and systems of incarceration, focusing on the US Sunbelt. We welcome papers which include transnational, global, and comparative contexts. The ultimate goal is a book essays. A workshop for participants and initial public presentations will be held in Boulder, at the Center for the American West on Sept. 16-17, 2011 (with travel on Sept. 15 and 18).
