From New York to the Northampton Association: David Ruggles and the Underground Railroad in New England. Our presenters include Patricia Holland, Bruce Laurie, Christopher Clark, Paul Gaffney, Kate Clifford Larson, Manisha Sinha, Graham Russell Hodges, Kathryn Grover, Neil Larson, Douglas R. Egerton and Linda Ziegenbein.
On Friday night, April 16 there will be a keynote address and booksigning by Graham Russell Hodges, author of the recently published David Ruggles: A Radical Black Abolitionist and the Underground Railroad in New York City. Saturday will be a full day of presentations on Ruggles, Lydia Maria Child, the Northampton Association and the Underground Railroad in New England. Kathryn Grover, a leading expert on the UGRR in the Northeast, will moderate a panel on Ruggles and his compatriots. A Sunday morning walking tour of historic sites will be followed by a reception at the David Ruggles Center and an afternoon tour of additional sites at this rich abolition era center that was Florence, Massachusetts.
