Seeking final panelist for a panel that will explore constructions of Scottish identity in medieval or early modern Scotland. One paper will look at identity within late medieval families in Scotland, using evidence from naming practices, seals, and family documents to determine how middling landowners and aristocrats viewed their place within the family and their kinship networks, both maternal and paternal. The second paper will examine religious identity in Scotland at the time of the Presbyterian Settlement in 1690 to the Act of Toleration n 1712, focusing on the efforts of Episcopalian ministers to refute the claims of their covenanting counterparts who pushed for continued discrimination and persecution of Episcopalian dissenters.
