“Africa in the Age of Globalization,” co-sponsored by Brantford’s interdisciplinary Contemporary Studies program and the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa, will examine how Africa is conceived in the world and the world in Africa. The organizing committee welcomes presentations exploring relations between Africa and the rest of the world in the era of globalization. Sub themes may include:
◄ images of Africa that emphasize its neediness despite its enormous potential;
◄ environmental challenges and the responses these have engendered;
◄ changing political and economic relationships with global powers;
◄ the role of media in shaping emerging democracies
We welcome proposals for scholarly papers, workshops and audio/visual presentations, and encourage proposals for complete panels (three papers). The conference will take place October 28-30, 2010. Please send a title, 250-word abstract and contact information for proposed participants to: proposals@laurierbrantfordconference.ca by March 15, 2010. Please consult http://www.laurierbrantfordconference.ca/ for more information.
