Social and Scientific Utopias in the History of Philosophy
A One-Day Workshop at the University of Aberdeen
Friday, May 28, 2010
The workshop aims to explore conceptions of ideal socio-economic relations as depicted in utopian writings of the 17th-19th centuries and, further, to explore the role envisioned for scientific enquiry and the application of scientific knowledge within imaginary, idealized societies. Abstracts are welcome on any aspect of the topic, which we hope to develop into a larger project.
Speakers to include R Serjeantson, D Garber, L Shapiro, and N Smith
A contribution to travel and accommodation costs may be available for authors of selected papers who have no access to funding. Please send abstracts (or complete papers)for consideration to the email address cited.
