The History Graduate Student Association of Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces its 5th Annual Conference on April 16-17, 2010. The conference will focus on forms of conflict and negotiations. History is a series of conflicts: people in conflict with each other, with their governments, their environment, their cultures and even themselves. As historians, we explore those conflicts and attempt to place them within a larger historical narrative. The Edge of Explosion will examine the differing forms of conflicts from various perspectives and the implications of those events. HGSA encourages all scholars with works that address issues of inconsistency, discord, controversy, struggle, as well as negotiation, cooperation, and conciliation from the early modern period (c. 1450 CE) to the present time to submit papers.
The conference coordinators also encourage those with work outside of this theme to submit papers for consideration.
Please send a 100-150 word abstract of what will be a 15-20 minute paper/presentation, a brief CV, and a list of any audio-visual needs to Deb Wilson by February 22, 2010.
