Soccer, in many ways, is a visual endeavour. The FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa has already turned into a perfect example of this. This conference will examine the social, cultural and political role of soccer in Africa by focusing on the visual dimensions of soccer in and beyond the stadium. About thirty scholars from nine different countries will present their current research. The conference will be held from the 28th to 30th of January 2010 and is organised by the History Department of the University of Basel, the Basler Afrika Bibliographien and the International Centre for Sports Studies (Neuchâtel). The detailed program of the conference can be checked here: http://www.fieldsofplay.ch/visakt.pdf.
