CALL FOR PAPERS & POSTERS
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: February 1, 2010

Princeton University Graduate School’s Office of Academic Affairs and Diversity in conjunction with the Black Graduate Caucus (BGC) solicits paper and poster submissions for a symposium showcasing graduate work on a broad range of subjects that pertain to issues of the Black experience.

Princeton University is proud to host this second annual scholarly symposium to highlight issues facing the Black community. The symposium will provide an intellectual forum to highlight important developments, achievements, and challenges facing the Black community. The program of events will feature a keynote speaker, a panel discussion, graduate student paper presentations, and a graduate student poster session.

Paper submissions from all disciplines are welcome, as long as they address the Black experience. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

➢ Blacks and Education (racial disparities, child development, higher education, etc.)
➢ Blacks and Politics (voting patterns, community organizing, etc.)
➢ Health Issues facing the Black Community
➢ Achievements in Black Literature, Music, and Art
➢ Socio-political Movements in U.S. History affecting Blacks
➢ Urban Planning and Development in the Black Community
➢ Black and Multi-Racial Identity

Poster submissions from all Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines are welcome, as long as they address broader issues that affect the Black community. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

➢ The Spread and Treatment of Disease
➢ Models of Biological, Chemical, or Physical Systems
➢ Technological Advancements within the Broader Community
➢ Scientific Developments for Sustainability in Africa
➢ Mathematical Models of Financial Systems

We request that those interested in presenting either a paper or a poster submit a brief proposal of no more than 500 words and a brief bio to Justene Hill (jghill@princeton.edu) and Taniecea Arceneaux (tarcenea@princeton.edu) by February 1, 2010. Please include your name, institution, email address, and proposal title in a Word document attachment along with any audio-visual needs. Those selected to present their paper or poster will be notified by February 8, 2010. Those selected to present their papers will be required to provide the full paper by February 26, 2010. Presentations should take approximately 15 minutes.
