History@Istanbul Summer School Program
ABOUT
The summer school at Bahçeşehir University aims to introduce and examine the city of Istanbul with a special emphasis on the historical and cultural evolution Istanbul throughout the centuries. Situated on the Bosphorus Strait separating Europe from Asia, Istanbul has long been one of the worlds most fascinating and lively cities. Capital city of the Roman Empire in the fourth century, the Byzantine Empire until the fifteenth century, and the Ottoman Empire until early in the twentieth century, Istanbul is today home to many important cultural and historical sites.
PROGRAM
The program offers students a survey course (HIS 1001)
Class size is approximately 40 students
Students receive 100 hours instruction ( 50 hours lectures and 50 hours seminars & field trips) during the program
Lectures are held on weekdays between 10:00 am13.00 pm
Seminars are held on weekdays between 14.00 pm-16:00 pm
Students who successfully complete the program will earn 6 credits and acquire a certificate
of completion and those who wish to acquire credits are expected to submit a work-in
progress portfolio representing their academic studies throughout the Summer School. The
working language of the Summer School is English.
HIS 1001 History @ Istanbul: The Summer School will consist of a series of lectures and seminars with the participation of expert academicians, both from abroad and Turkey. The seminars, lectures and debates will encompass several topics about the history of the city.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students will also participate in a variety of extracurricular activities ranging from guided visits to group explorations including visits to museums, archaeological sites in and beyond Istanbul, including Iznik, Bursa, and Edirne.

Students will be accommodated at the Bahçeşehir University Ortaköy dormitories and lectures will take place at the Beşiktaş campus.

PAYMENT PLAN
Non-refundable downpayment of US $ 100 for program tuition by 1 June 2010.
The rest of the payments are to be made by 15 June 2009 (In case of payment delay, there will be a surcharge of 10 %)
Total fees: $ 3500 (Tuition fee, dorm, field trips included)
Application fee: $ 50
Application due date 3 May 2010.
