Ronald Rietveld, professor emeritus of history at California State University, will present a free public lecture at Drake University on "An Abraham Lincoln Memory" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, in the Reading Room of Cowles Library, 2725 University Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Rietveld has been a student of Lincoln since 1952 when, at the age of 14, he discovered the last photograph taken of Lincoln in the Nicolay papers of the Illinois State Historical Society Library. Reitveld continues to lecture and write extensively on Lincoln and the Civil War. He also serves as an adviser to the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. His lecture is in conjunction with the national traveling exhibit "Abraham Lincoln: A Man for His Time, A Man for All Times," at Drake's Cowles Library from Jan. 11 - Feb. 8, 2010. The exhibit, accompanied by letters and photographs from Civil War soldiers, is part of Cowles Library's "Citizens Arise!" series.
