The Fifth Annual Graduate Student Conference on Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by University of Maryland graduate students and the University of Maryland Latin American Studies Center, is an interdisciplinary space for students working on Latin America and the Caribbean. This conference will provide students with the opportunity to present papers, dissertations, and current projects. Our purpose is to attract contributors whose work can open dialogue and promote an exchange of ideas.
We encourage the participation of students from other institutions, both in the United States and abroad.
The Fifth Annual Graduate Student Conference on Latin America and the Caribbean invites students to submit a single-page abstract (250 words maximum) of a paper, dissertation, or work-in-progress. Projects should be related to Latin America or the Caribbean. The abstract should include the geographic/thematic area of research, the temporal frame, as well as the paperís argument or hypothesis. Abstracts may be submitted in English or Spanish. The final deadline for submission is January 15th, 2010. We will inform applicants of their acceptance or rejection by January 22, 2010.
Students invited to participate will have until March 5, 2010 to submit final papers (or substantial outlines in the case of works-in-progress). Final papers may be submitted in English or Spanish. During the conference, each student will have approximately 20 minutes to present his/her work as a member of a panel of scholars focused on a common theme.
