We are creating a panel on representations/performances of race, class and/or gender in Gilded Age/Progressive Era America for the AHA conference in Boston in January 2011. Currently we have two panelists, one focusing on representations of gunbearers and the African safari in accounts published for American reading audiences, and the other looking at American representations of race and gender in Cuba in print media during the Spanish-American War. We'd be very interested in anyone working on international/transnational aspects of representation of gender/race/class in the Progressive Era, but are open to other possibilities (something on representations from the American West during the period, for example). Please e-mail me an abstract (up to 300 words) and a biographical paragraph or summary cv (up to 250 words) by January 10th if you are interested.
