Politics, Faith, and Reason:
Third Cambridge Graduate Conference in Political Thought and Intellectual History
Paper proposals are invited for the third Cambridge Graduate Conference in Political Thought and Intellectual History, to be held on 15-16 March 2010 at the University of Cambridge. The theme of the 2010 conference will be “Politics, Faith, and Reason”, and papers will be considered which deal with any period and tradition in the history of political thought from antiquity to the present. Papers which bring an historical perspective to bear on problems of contemporary political theory will be welcomed. A keynote address will be given by Gareth Stedman Jones, Professor of Political Science in the University of Cambridge and recent author of An End to Poverty? A Historical Debate (2004).
The theme should be understood broadly, to include secular as well as religious conceptions of “faith”, and diverse versions of rationality. Up to eight papers will be accepted. Panels will be led by a discussant from Cambridge, who will offer comments on each paper before general discussion with Cambridge faculty and conference participants. The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for outstanding graduate students to present and discuss their work in a collegial and supportive atmosphere. Accommodation will be provided for speakers from outside Cambridge, and some support may be available towards travel expenses.
Abstracts of up to 500 words are requested by 4 December 2009, with accepted papers to follow in full by 1 March 2010. Please submit abstracts, along with your name and a brief curriculum vitae, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration will close on February 19 2010; those wishing to attend the conference without presenting a paper should write to the above address with their name and institutional affiliation before that date.
