Description: This panel commemorates the centenary anniversary, in 2010, of the Portuguese Republic and seeks to bring together papers on the origination, dissemination and debate of Republican ideas in Portuguese culture, spanning the generations of the 1820s and 1910. The general scope of this panel includes interdisciplinary studies in History and Literature, the Arts, Journalism, Essay, or Popular Culture. Theme includes also Iberian and trans-Iberian relations, with emphasis on historic-literary associations between Portuguese and Spanish authors.
Submission guidelines: Papers in Portuguese, Spanish, and English are welcome. Please submit paper proposals, with an abstract (500 words max.), by November 15, 2009. Include a brief vita (not more than 1 page). All paper proposals must include the title of the paper; presenter's name and institutional affiliation; mailing address, phone and fax number, and email address.
