Panel Proposal for OAH Conference in Houston, TX, March 17-20, 2011.
Panel Title: "American Feminism After Suffrage"
250-word abstract and 500-word vita due December 1, 2009
I am currently assembling a panel for the 2011 OAH that will address the conference theme, “Americans Divided and United: Multiple and Shifting Solidarities,” by examining the state of American feminism in the post-suffrage period. The subject invites a range of papers exploring not only what happened to the organized feminist movement once women won the right to vote, but also the ways in which women’s multiple and often conflicting allegiances played out in American politics, society, and culture. I am seeking submissions that will complement my own paper on manifestations of feminism in American popular culture in the 1920s and 30s. Please submit your 250-word abstract and 500-word biographical sketch by December 1, 2009, to Michelle Finn at mfinn2@mail.rochester.edu.
