The Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection, Hay Research Library, Brown University, offers short-term research fellowships with stipends of up to $1000 to researchers (established and emerging scholars, artists, and writers) who will make effective use of the Collection’s research material. The Collection holds more than 30,000 books, serials, albums, sketchbooks, scrapbooks, manuscripts, print portfolios, sheet music covers, over 6,000 miniature toy soldiers, and some 15,000 individual prints, drawings, paintings, watercolors, and photographs. The recipient/s will be research fellows at the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection which will provide essential administrative and reader services during the research visit. Applicants should submit a detailed research proposal that includes a plan for optimal use of the Collection materials, curriculum vitae, at least one letter of recommendation, and relevant background information to Anne S. K. Brown Fellowship Committee either by postal mail, % Peter Harrington, Curator, Brown Military Collection, Special Collections Department, John Hay Library, Brown University, 20 Prospect St/Box A, Providence, RI; or attached to an email to Peter_Harrington@brown.edu.
The deadlines for applications are the first Monday in April (for fellowships beginning in the summer or fall) and the first Monday in October (for fellowships beginning in the winter or spring). Decisions will be announced after the May and November meetings of the Board of Management. The funding offered will be determined in part by the extent to which the research topic might effectively utilize materials of the Collection.
