Papers, designed for a 15 minute oral presentation, are invited on the films and plays of William Inge, and on the works of Paula Vogel. Papers selected for presentation will be deposited in the William Inge Collection at Independence Community College, the official repository of the papers of William Inge.
Scholars or students interested in presenting a paper should submit a substantial abstract, with title, by November 15, 2009. Electronic submissions are encouraged.
The William Inge Theatre Festival is the official theatre festival of the state of Kansas. On April 21-24, 2010, we will be honoring the work of Paula Vogel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of works including "A Civil War Christmas" and "How I Learned to Drive." In addition to her stage work, Vogel has taught and inspired many of the finest young playwrights in America.
Past William Inge Festival honorees include: Jerome Lawrence, William Gibson, Robert Anderson, John Patrick, Garson Kanin, Sidney Kingsley, Robert E. Lee, Horton Foote, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Edward Albee, Peter Shaffer, Wendy Wasserstein, Terrence McNally, Arthur Miller, August Wilson, Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim, John Guare, A.R. Gurney, Lanford Wilson, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Romulus Linney, Arthur Laurents, Tina Howe, Sheldon Harnick, Christopher Durang, and Tom Jones.
Nationally prominent scholars and artists are slated to attend the Festival and Conference this year, and to participate in public lectures and forums throughout the four days. These include:
